I would like to suggest options to disable individual field scraping for libraries. For example, if I don’t want to see the Cast, Producer, Writer, Studio, etc. I would like to be able to request the application not to pull this information when the video data is scraped from external sources.
I have come up with a way to modify the scraping plugins to not pull this information, but I know that any time an update can wipe the changes, and I’m not happy hacking an application that should allow us to customize our content metadata by default.
I leave that in the hands of the Plex team to decide, weather to not pull the data at all or to display the data after being pulled. The end result, though, would be that if I did not want to see cast data, then I would have an option to keep it from displaying. How it works in the background is up to the development team.
Currently, with my plugin hacks, the data is being pulled, but the database is not being populated, and that seems to work fine without breaking anything.
What the actual hell here. I was able to at least get around this in the past by hacking the plugins so that I wasn’t force-fed information I didn’t want to see, but it looks like modifying the plugin code for metadata no longer works. What kind of company actively makes it harder to configure the end-user experience, rather than working with us here? Before I was frustrated, but now I’m pretty furious at this. And I guess there hasn’t been any active progress in putting my request into an actual feature as of yet? How hard is it to allow us to either disable the scraping of information or at the very least keep it from being displayed to us?
To reiterate, I don’t want to see cast information, I don’t want to see writers and directors. I don’t want to see extras or reviews. I just want to see the damn movie, a nice synopsis and publicly available art, and enjoy my movies and shows in peace here without the extra overload of information.
