This is NOT an issue of naming. When I see this being discussed people often assume it is a naming issue. I have personal files and videos that are not shows or movies and need no sorting other than date added or file name. If I save a particular file that is remotely similar in content (the video itself, not the name) and give it a completely different name, Plex will merge the files and I lose track of the newer video and it’s actual date unless I go to my OS’s file manager.
This feature may work for some but it looks like it has no use in many areas and for me is a hindrance. I can also name two different videos with the same name in this folder and it does not auto merge. My Scanner : Plex Video Files & Agent: Personal Media. It happens with other combinations as well such as Scanner: Video Files Scanner
I would like to remove or at least disable the feature. Can anyone assist?
Are your files MP4 and maybe have embedded titles? I have similarly named files with similar content and they did not auto merge. Here is an example. I’m using list view so you can see they have similar qualities.
Yes files are MP4 and no there are no embedded titles. I have noticed when I (as a test)embed a title to the audio portion of the file Plex will separate them but place it with the same date as the original file even if they are months apart. This totally disrupts my workflow as i go by filename AND date added.
Once again, this isn’t a naming issue. I’m looking for a way to completely disable auto-merge.
You cannot disable auto-merge. The issue to me is that things should not auto-merge unless there is something causing them to. So you should try to identify why. Using the Personal agent should not merge unless there is something very specific identifying the 2 files as being the same.
