Hello,

I recently tested a competing Mutimedia server (Emby) and here are the features I would like to see also on Plex:

  • Disable the automatic redirection when you make a remote connection to the server. You are automaticly redirected to the “https://app.plex.tv/auth…” website wich is often block by proxy.

What I’d like to see in Plex from Emby:

  • Better metadata: display portrait image and biography to every actor or director, also show movies and tv shows across libraries
  • Much more varied/variable display of movie posters, TV show images (landscape format), etc.
  • maybe some sort of timeline / grouping feature for home movies
  • forget about the unneccessary cra… I mean, stuff, that Plex is going into now: VR, News, Podcasts…

Interestingly, my experience concerning CPU and RAM is actually the opposite of yours: Plex plays smoothly on my lowly hardware, whereas Emby keeps crashing probably due to RAM shortage.

@brownpill I confirm your report actually after several attempts to stream including via a Xiaomi Box. I encountered many media player errors. While under Plex no problem.

Other features found on Emby, the “Plugins” non-existent under Plex which, however, could be more developed and more understandable than the “channels” currently in place.

To expand on brownpill’s comment about better metadata:

I would like to see more improvements done to the actor/director pages. With the web interface, I would like to see something something similar to the artist pages in music where you get a biography, a list of works on the server (TV, Movie, even Music if relevant), possibly a list popular works, and even offer a list of all works to include those not on the server (inspire me to buy something if I like the actor/director).

I’m not familiar with other device interfaces, but on the Apple TV, I’d like to see a way to get a list of actors/directors and be able to read their bios from the pulldown dialog while watching a movie.

To add to my previous post: more robust support for MP3 tags is also something Plex sorely needs. Right now, there’s one Album Artist, and that’s it.
No multiple Album Artists (e.g. Herbert von Karajan; Berliner Philharmoniker; some soloist), no Track Artists, no Composer, let alone all the tags that are used to better organize classical music and jazz.
While Plex currently works quite nicely for so-called popular music, it’s nearly worthless for Classical music. Emby is better and more flexible there, though they too are still far away from being really good, and somewhat less polished than Plex, IMHO.

I’m sorry but “be like Emby” (paraphrasing) is not a single feature request. I have no issue with making requests for any of the five things suggest but please make 5 separate requests.
