As I mentioned in another thread, a Plex employee openly inferred Plex is a SOCIAL MEDIA PLATFORM.
In Australia at least, “opt-in” is the general standard for data collection and sensitive information under the Privacy Act. For social media use, however, whether you use opt-in or opt-out depends on the specific context. Under 16 years of age banned. Age verification using a government approved identification is required, by law. What Plex requires is insufficent (verify over 18 by ticking a box).
I spent time in Europe professionally years ago, and legally, you also had to strictly adhere to opt out and opt in regulations. I am not sure what the current status is.
Note, I am not a lawyer, just a Plex customer that has read material provided by local organisations on the topic. I can not confirm the accuracy of my comments.
