Ok, I ran that and it didn’t return anything. I am not sure if that is a good or bad sign lol

Now. what’s this about not finding a service file?

How is plex installed? Downloaded from the Ubuntu store or Plex.tv directly?

that explains it. It will be a bear in that form.

May I suggest, which won’t hurt your data in any way but make this, and support tasks easier,

  1. Uninstall that snap package you got from Ubuntu
  2. Go to plex.tv/downloads
  3. Get the 64 bit Linux version for Ubuntu (DEB packaging)
  4. As you download it, it will give you the choice to install or save. That choice is yours.

When I launched it though this is what I got from Firefox:

Unable to connect

Firefox can’t establish a connection to the server at localhost:32400.

The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few moments.
If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer’s network connection.
If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure that Firefox is permitted to access the Web

NO problem. I suspected that.

  1. In that Plex/Web browser – Upper right corner – Sign out
  2. Open an Incognito window
  3. In that window, go to address http://127.0.0.1:32400/manage
  4. Now you should be able to talk to it.

If not, sudo systemctl start plexmediaserver and repeat step #3 again.

I tried both but still had the same results. do i need to restart system after download?

No. We can force it to reset to a ‘new’ (unowned) state.

The reset sequence

sudo systemctl stop plexmediaserver
cd "/var/lib/plexmediaserver/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server"
mv Preferences.xml Preferences.xml-old

Now we start it gain and perform most of a 'fresh install but not all.

  1. systemctl start plexmediaserver
  2. open http://127.0.0.1:32400/web (the normal address)
  3. It will ask to claim & start setting up as if new
  4. Give this a new, temporary name to avoid confusion.
  5. DO NOT create new library sections. SKIP this step
  6. Proceed normally through the rest of setup
  7. When you arrive at the dashboard, anything previously created will be there.

If this fails:

sudo tar cf /tmp/Plexlogs.tar.gz   "/var/lib/plexmediaserver/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server/Logs"

Please attach that /tmp/PlexLogs.tar.gz here for me to see what happened.

otherwise:

  1. Settings - Authorized devices.
  2. Servers dropdown
  3. REMOVE the old server
  4. Go to “Settings - Server - General - Show Advanced”
  5. Change the temporary friendly name we assigned and give it its old name again.

terminal returned this:

I ran the logs as requested and it returned this:

Well only the one year but I am still learning for sure. I did not look in the tmp file lol I was looking here:

/var/lib/plexmediaserver/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server/Logs"

I am an idiot. I found the file now but it is 67.3 MB

It’s trying to zip the whole Plex Media Server directory.

You have success on 3 of the 4 drives! Are you referencing it yet within Plex?

What are we missing?

All of those logs are before we moved to our new house in August. Since then it hasn’t accessed anything. When I go into plex the it sees the server but there are no movies, shows, or music. When i try to create a library and rebuild it it doesn’t see the files at all. The “/disks” file folder that used to appear is no longer there
