Through PMS / Web client you can “get info” on a audio tracks to understand the quality of music played however there is no tag/identification/quality description being passed through to the client (ios / xbox / roku are my personal clients and i presume its the same for other clients).
Similar to TV and Movies where the audio quality is shown - can this be added to music? I have a number of lossless albums (and in some scenarios multiple copies of the same album) which there is no identification of quality on any of the above players to select the right copy to listen to.
Is it possible to grab the bitrate field from the “get info” of the audio track (or the average of all tracks in the album displayed at the album level) and display it?
@DRPhoto the mobile Android client actually has the option to display this information in the new music player, but I’m not sure if they plan to leave it permanently.. I hope they do, and it would be a nice addition to other clients as well.
Thanks very much for the quick response, i have just triple checked my ios player (as im out of home at the moment) and can confirm that the above (or something similar) is not available in ios, even once playing a track.
Its a “half way” solution if it was rolled out to other clients, but yeah not exactly what i would think would be needed.
Appreciate the quick response and hope they keep it in andriod and roll it out over all clients.
I heartily endorse this request. I am in the process of setting up the PMS to serve my music collection as well (I have been using it for films and television for years) and I really need the client apps for Roku, X-Box One and the Nvidia Shield to be able to include format and bitrate with the rest of the album/track information. In addition to having multiple copies of certain albums in differing formats, I just really want to know if the album I am about to play was encoded in 24 bit/192 khz, 320 kbps m4a/aac, 192 kbps mp3 or (shudder) 128 kbps wma. Hopefully this is something that can be done quickly and easily,. Thank you.
The PlexAmp app on ios shows the audio format (FLAC), sampling rate (44), and bit depth (16) of the currently playing track. The Plex app on ios does not as of version 7.11.
