So I just set up a plex home, and created managed users for my kids. When it asks for pins at start up, it displays my kid’s names but it says my email address for my account. Is there any way I can input a different name here? I have tried going under account settings, and there is a place where I can input a username, but it says it will be able to use that instead of my email to log in. I was OK with that, but I tried to type in my name and it said it was already taken. I don’t really want my first name as my user name, I just want it to say my name when I am choosing between myself and my kids and inputting my pin. Am I doing this wrong?
That name is stored on PLEX(admin accounts or sharing with plex accounts created on the plex.tv website). So you will have to come up with a nickname for yourself.
So there is nowhere for me to set my actual name under account data and have it say my actual name instead of my email or username? I can only change my user name to some random thing, and have it say that instead? Seems to me there should be a place under account data to input my name info, and have it use that.
Yes and no.
I see where you are getting at but because PMS allows you to use a username to sign in, that name will need to be authenticated through plex.tv and must be unique to you.
You can user any name that isn’t taken up by someone else. You may be able to use your first/last name, or your full first/middle/last or any combination of it.
There is a feature request for that Alias instead of plex.tv usernames
