I am running the latest version of PMS (Currently 1.20.3.3483) on iMac to access files on a Smart TV via DLNA.
While all of my own local shared folders and files play flawlessly, I have an issue playing any files that other users are sharing with me.
Note that I can see the directory listing of the files and folders that other users are sharing with me on the Smart TV, however none of the files will play.
These files will play perfectly on my server and via Plex player apps, but not via DLNA.
(Could be wrong) But I think DLNA can only play files that are on your local network.
So as the files shared with you are not within your network, your tv is not going to be able to play them. Even though plex is sending the library info out via DLNA.
Hi blim5001,
Thank you for your quick reply.
I have come across quite a few posts with others asking about this functionality to view remote server content via local DLNA.
Seems that some have been able to get this working, although I cannot find any clear instructions on how to get this working
If anyone has managed to get this working it would be great if they could post some instructions.
Thanks!
UPDATE
Just wanted to mention that I can play music files such as .mp3 from the shared remote library.
The album art etc is also displayed.
Video files and photos are listed but will not play.
Just to confirm, I have Plex server running on local network and can play music from the libraries my friend shares from their remote Plex server.
Could anyone please explain why music would play from remote library over DLNA but video files will not?
The fact that music files play including album artwork being displayed has given me hope that this will work for video files.
