I'm wondering if PLEX-server is capable of serving remote search requests.
I have a quit large music library and I would like that my apps (BubbleUPnP, etc...) can search the library remotely (thus without downloading the whole musicdbase).
It can be done with i.e. twonky media server, they support "remote search"
Currently, Plex apps can remotely browse the server using token authentication and the plex.tv website.
I'm not quite sure that the exposure you risk by doing this is worth it, but if you are looking at doing this with other apps, you more than likely would need to open/forward a port on your router to the server. Then you should be able to point your app to your external IP and forwarded port.
You in theory would be able to pick any external port and forward interally to 32400 which is the default plex DLNA port.
With that being said, I have not tried this so I can't tell you for sure if/how well it would work.
I have also just encountered this. Using the Intel Upnp Device Spy (http://opentools.homeip.net/dev-tools-for-upnp) there is no 'Search' action available through my Plex Media Server - this means that searching from non-Plex UPNP clients will not work.
Has this issue been fixed / addressed? Does PLEX now support full UPnP search so those of us using BubbleUPnP can perform searches like minimserver or minidlna supports?

No, nothing has changed.
If it truly is a desired feature it should be placed in the feature request forum:
