Does Chromecast TV (Plex App) basically support HDR through direct play?

Server Version#: 1.28.0.5999
Player Version#: latest Chromecast Plex App

Should it be possible to get HDR content when direct playing a 4k HDR movie on a Chromecast TV (CCwGTV, latest model)?

I recently purchased a Panasonic OLED TV that supports all kinds of HDR content, but when playing a HDR source through Plex on Chromecast TV (direct play or stream), the TV doesn’t show the HDR signature (which appears for other HDR content like Xbox Games with HDR).

Before digging deeper into this, I’d like to figure out whether the Chromecast TV Plex app basically should be able to do it. Or if there are any caveeats or tricks to get it working.

Thanks!

While you wait for a more complete answer this article suggests it does.

I’m not familiar with Panasonic TV’s but one thing that springs to mind is if HDR is enabled by default on all HDMI ports?

I seem to recall I once had a Samsung TV that required all ports being set independently.

Sorry I can’t give a more complete answer.

Thanks for your reply. That’s indeed an important hint, but it was already connected to a 4K HDMI port. This TV has 2 of them.

Meanwhile I found the solution to my HDR problem and want to share it here. Maybe it’s helpful for other CCwGTV users:
If you have a TV that is Dolby Vision capable, CCwGTV obviously selects this as the primary display option. It’s a bit hidden in the CCwGTV settings. Depending on your TV, you get different options there. For me it’s “Dolby Vision” (pre-selected), “HDR” and “SDR”. As soon as I selected “HDR”, I got my HDR content from Plex.
