Does PHT / PMP accept direct play from a wider range of codecs than plex smart tv apps?

If I play a movie from plex installed on my NAS, to a plex app on a smart TV - rather than playing it to PHT or PMP on my Mac book pro, Will this mean the smart tv will accept DIRECT PLAY from a narrower range of codecs / file types than PHT or PMP on a MacBook would do? Obviously this depends on the tv, but it’s a general question. If theres a more useful range of codecs on PHT/PMP i may as well use that and steam to the TV using apple TV. Thanks!

The answer is yes, PHT(openPHT now) and PMP has a more useful range of codecs.

Thanks. Do you know where I can find a list of what codecs and other aspets of file formats pms and PHT can direct stream
