Does Plex hardware transcoding work with AMD Radeon cards?

As I previously pointed out in

ATI Radeon 5850 For Transcoding

I’m currently using Xeon X5670 CPU (6 cores / 12 threads) for transcoding. It works ok, but there’s a bit of a delay starting playback and when rewinding & fast forwarding. I have an ATI Radeon 5850 1GB GPU laying around - would it be faster for transcoding then X5670 ?

Engineering has not yet committed to anything.
