Does plex has av1 encoding on the roadmap?

I ask this because I have a B580 as transcode gpu (and it supports av1 encode), but I don’t have enough upload bandwidth for my remote buds to stream 4k at the same time, and some of them really like to watch on a browser  , which will black screen if I turn on HEVC encoding.

If your referring to Linux clients.

Not really, I meant server-side encode and send av1 to client to save some bandwidth; I believe decoding is already there.

I don’t have any information as to Plex’s media server roadmap, but they’ve been steadily improving their transcoder over the last year; they’ve added AV1 decoding and H.265 encoding and recently promoted it from beta.

Having said that, most modern browsers (Safari, Edge, and, God forbid Chrome) do support decoding H.265 video streams, provided that the system has hardware capable of doing so. If your friends don’t have capable browsers and/or hardware, a potential interim solution might be to limit your remote stream bitrate to something your upstream connection can handle, given your expected number of streams.

Or, they could use a more capable client app (Plex Desktop, for example).

I’m not sure why we have black screen, I personally tested before using Chrome, I am 100% sure my system is capable of decoding H256, and I did some debugging but went to a dead end. I am in the process of convincing my friends to use the app. But still, I am curious if Plex will add av1 encoding, since av1 is open source, should be simpler?
