No playback of av1(?) encoded videos

Server Version#: 1.20.1.3252

So, I´ve tried playing back certain TV series I recently added to my library and playback consistently does not start.
On the Windows app and in the browser the error message is the following:
“Diese Datei kann nicht konvertiert werden. Implementierung für Video Decoder ‘av1’ wurde nicht gefunden.” (Sorry for the language, I´ve highlighted the essential part")

On Android (and Android TV) it just says “unable to play media”.

I am going out on a limb here and say this is just Plex not supporting this av1 codec, which would be a shame really.
Is there another solution for me besides reencoding all affected video files?
Will Plex introduce av1 support soon?

Still, I find it mindboggling that Plex does not seem to support a standard web video codec that has been around for at least 3 years now.

I don’t think it’s mind boggling. It would be a nice feature, it’s just not the most common use case. It’s still pretty uncommon for people to encode media as AV1 themselves.

If you downloaded these from YouTube, one thing that might be helpful is to download another version instead, requesting a different encoding.

One way is with youtube-dl, there are lots of others.
