Plex is much more functional and flexible than Kodi. But Kodi just looks so much better with all its available skins and its over all layout. Plex really struggles with its blah look. They need to create/hire an art department to fix the look of the server and all the clients (not just iOS and Android…ahmnmn…Windows?)
I almost hate to say this but I do not watch Plex’s interface I watch content and any move to “pretty up” the interface without making it easier to find and play my media is just wasted time.
I have looked at Kodi and have it loaded on some of my devices and often use it on those but I use the Plex Kodi application not Kodi itself. I find that it is simply too hard, using any skin I have found, to actually use Kodi for effective media playback and they have added so many functions and sub functions and enhancements that cannot be turned off that it is, at best, cumbersome to actually use Kodi.
Perhaps if I were to force myself to use it for an extended length of time I might find it easier to use but I doubt it.
Plex is trying to be like Kodi and that is, to me, a bad thing. All I want is to be able to easily find and play my media and much beyond that is simply wasted time and space on my screen.
I do not want pretty when it comes at the expense of functionality and Plex’s and Kodi’s and most other interfaces are moving away from functionality and closer to pretty.
A media manager is a lot like a wife (or husband) and we have from Jimmy Soul:

While it is not impossible to have both pretty and functional in the same package modern programming seems to always choose form over function even in cases where it is not necessary.
Where’s’The Apps Suck’ voting option?
When I have to use an abandoned, unsupported Plex App (RARflix) to find anything in my library without being beat over the head with ‘suggestions’ as to what I need to watch next and then when I do the fifty clicks to anywhere to get to the library there’s the dueling banjo horizontal list from Hades running from The Earth to The Moon - there’s something seriously wrong with the layout.

You just contradicted yourself. I mentioned right in there that I was also talking about the overall layout of the server and clients. You then go on a rant about how the poll is useless, and then follow that up crying about the overall layout. Thanks for talking us into a contradictory loop. Kudos.

Actually the only real use for a poll like this one on the internet is for the poster to get data supporting their preconceived notions. Polls are like statistics and without truly random sources statistics are useless in that the data gleaned is naturally biased. But they sometimes can be fun anyway.

Wow. You people are a real ‘hoot’. Don’t break your neck falling off those soapboxes.
I hate. Hate. HATE! What Kodi has done with the latest look… It’s slow, difficult to understand and convoluted. I like Plex because I can go straight to the content I want to watch without having to wade through an impossible but beautiful “look”. So go me Plex is just fine the way it looks, though I wouldn’t mind a few tweaks here and there.
I honestly couldn’t stand the look of PMP and moved to RasPlex quite some time ago. I’m not sure if PMP has improved upon its horrid UI and lack of features since then, but it was too frustrating to the point of almost being useless to me at the time.
Plex has a nice look, very professional. Way better than Kodi, not even close. Even better than Netflix, Hulu and Amazon.
The only thing they could do is offer a option to change the background/interface color but that isn’t even necessary.
You mess with looks you forget function
the Kodi 17/18 looks killer with default skin.
i think all plex need is basic skin color changing so you could change the background/colors and certain elements like buttons and borders.
