Since RasPlex uses OpenPHT it’s based on XBMC/Kodi, right?
Kodi supports a 3D mode so the menus don’t get distorted, does OpenPHT also support that? The Plex app of my Sony TV can recognize if a movie is 3D or not based on the file name and then switches to the correct 3D mode of my TV.
My TV also supports 3D recognition, so if the source sends the right EDID info, it automatically switches to the correct 3D mode, according to Raspbian there is a service which allows to send this EDID info, http://www.gtkdb.de/index_36_2461.html
Is this supported by RasPlex? Because that would be pretty awesome, then I don’t have to do anything when I want to watch 3D movies and it would give a neat, seamless experience.
I have a Samsung 48" H6400 and that is also 3D and Active if i play HSBS files my tv auto detects it via Rasplex. But not TAB= TOP and BOTTOM i have to change the TV to TAB. Im not sure if that is because HSBS is more suited for Active TV’s which ive heard it is
That’s good to know, finally someone who answers my thread, thanks!
Regarding your problem with TAB movies, AFAIK you have to tag TAB 3D movies with H-OU (Over and Under) instead of H-TAB, then Plex should recognize it as over and under 3D movie, but I haven’t tried this yet.
My question is, does your TV detect that it’s a 3D movie based on what’s on the screen or does the Raspberry send the information that it’s a 3D movie via EDID?
Because my Sony Bravia has two detection modes, one based on the HDMI signal, e.g. the EDID info and the other mode detects 3D based on what is being played and IMHO the latter could not always work perfectly, that’s why I’d like to know if RasPlex sends this info, I definitely know that the Raspi has the capability to do so.
Im not to sure to be honest. I think its the TV the pi does have settings for 3D. I have my 3D settings on Auto detect but it does not auto detect H-OU but it does H-SBS. when i go to the 3D setting on TV it does not say H-SBS or H-OU just says enabled when i play H-SBS and not the H-SBS symbol
If i play H-OU 3D I have top and bottom on my TV and then have to set top and bottom on my TV To set it up but not on H-SBS even though the pi is on Auto detect
Well okay, I just looked into the code of RasPlex and searched the repo for some keywords and I couldn’t find anything regarding 3D modes or similar so I guess RasPlex hasn’t even set up detection for 3D files like the Plex App for my TV has.
If the app on my TV wouldn’t be so damn slow I’d happily use that, since it detects 3D files automatically and switches the mode of my TV depending on the file name… But yeah, guess I have to create a feature request and hope the RasPlex team will implement it.
The new update has support for 3D. to be honest im not 100% sure how to really set it up for 3D but the pi should really detect what file is been played and send it to the tv i think cause my 3D files are 20gig plus it detects them better for an active TV H-OU is more for passive
Right just tried an H-OU on my TV and you can change it in the RasPlex setting when starting the film and it changes the H-OU on the TV. But H-SBS the TV auto detects it and nothing has to change setting wise
