Does Watch Together encode separate streams per user?

Does Plex’s Watch Together feature encode separate streams per user, or just 1 stream that’s broadcast to 2+ users?

I’d like to watch a movie with my work friends, but I’m concerned that Plex might try encoding separate per-person streams, and I doubt my system can handle 20 streams at once.

Try it?

Considering that remote users may have both different server and client bandwidth settings, I would assume each is a separate stream.

But haven’t used it myself.

Here are just a few possible algorithms that come to mind:

  1. LCD: A single stream is created for the Lowest Common Denominator amongst the group of clients.
  2. The client group’s capabilities are examined and a minimal number of streams is created, 1 stream per each set of clients with similar capabilities.
  3. Client capabilities are examined and assigned a good-better-best rating, then up to 3 streams are created to match.

There are other possibilities as well, of course, probably depends on whether Plex’s devs are drinking coffee or herbal tea.
