Dolby atmos help

hi all

i got me a sony a85 from 2020 with eARC, that supports dolby atmos, im using an optimized eARC HDMI cable. and a sonos theater setup with their new arc

im trying to watch a movie with truehd over plex but my server keeps down transcode to EAC3 (i know it’s DD+) but i’d like to get the full atmos working.

any help ?
thanks in advance

If you want TrueHD + Atmos, you will need an Nvidia Shield Pro attached to the HDMI input of your TV.

TV manufacturer restrictions do not permit Smart TV apps to pass TrueHD + Atmos audio to attached audio equipment.

Equipment attached to a TV HDMI input can pass TrueHD + Atmos (and dts-HD) audio through the TV to attached audio equipment.

The Nvidia Shield Pro is the only streaming device that plays 4K HDR video and will passthrough TrueHD + Atmos and dts-HD audio.

See this thread for additional information:

thanks for the answer then why cant plex transcode audio to some compressed version of atmos as netflix does.

For Atmos, Netflix/Amazon/Apple/etc stream Dolby Digital Plus + Atmos, aka “Lossy Atmos” or “Streaming Atmos,” not TrueHD + Atmos. The audio is stored that way on their servers. They do not transcode it on the fly.

Could Plex transcode TrueHD + Atmos to DDP + Atmos in real time? I’ve no idea. I’ve no idea the computational requirements to do so. It might not be feasible for systems used by most Plex users. Also, even if it was technologically possible, the economics might not work. Dolby probably wants a boatload of money to licensing the technology. Those fees probably do not fit within Plex’s current financial structure.

Okay then but it wolud be Nice to ser some time

So Them 4k hdr get some crisp audio too
