Don't reset my custom macOS app icon after update

Could you please not automatically reset the custom macOS app icon to the default one when updating? Until you update the icons to the Big Sur style, after every update I have to download the icon from macosicons.com and manually install it so that all the icons look the same style, and this is very annoying.

I haven’t tinkered with icons on macOS for some time… from what I remember, the icons are part of the app package… updating the app replaces the previously installed app package – and therefore comes with its own original Plex app icon. So I’m not sure what you’re asking for can actually be done.

At a minimum, Firefox, Steam, Spotify, Microsoft Office apps, JetBrains apps, and apps updated with the Sparkle framework do not reset the custom icon. So it depends on how the app developer implements updating their app.

Wow, I thought this was annoying only to me  I also constantly downloaded the icon from macosicons.com and replaced it, but Plex stubbornly changes it back every time after an update  This is insanely annoying  What’s more, a million years have passed but Plex still continues to use the old icon. It’s like a bull in a china shop.

Make an Alias, customize that icon.

Or an AppleScript:

In Script Editor:

tell application “Plex” to activate

Save as an Application.

Similarly, customize that icon.

It’s a temporary measure. Plex should have updated the icon long time ago to match the current design trends because now it looks really bad next to other icons.

They also should have gotten rid of the light theme long ago. The light theme doesn’t even exist in Plex, but still every time macos switches to the light theme, the Plex window does it too and it looks terrible.

The top bar should always look dark.
