Please add the ability to select podcast(s) episode or series to auto download onto our Plex server for playback at a later date without having to redownload it on a local device.
Think of it as a podcast “archive” of sorts.
Thanks and please vote for this if you’d like to see it implemented.
Thanks! I’m hoping it will get more notice and votes. A few folks mentioned it in comments on the podcast press release but the comments are closed so I can’t beg them to come vote! Having said that I think it is the team’s radar.
I already do this manually for 5 podcasts every week, it would be the cherry on top for the server to handle it. Some of the podcasts I listen to use uncomon codex and the mobile app can’t process them (just results in high pitch squeal) but the server can! So I can’t use the podcast system.
I like plex but the push for more and more non server based features is annoying.
I would like to see this also, some podcasts don’t mind if you download them. But this may be one of those grey areas where some podcast don’t want you to download them, just stream them.
Plex, please make this happen! I love the idea of Plex Podcasts but the level of functionality needs to be on par with TV & Movies. For the android app, I would like to at least have more options for podcasts like auto-download and/or auto-queue next episode. Another thing would be to have downloaded episodes automatically delete once played. I also can’t find a direct way to get to the queue unless currently playing a podcast.
There are certainly a number of podcast episodes I would like to “save” into a library on my server. A simple option to “Save this episode to a library” which would then prompt for which library would be great. I would save/copy the file into that library’s media folder and then refresh that library. Thanks!
Here, I’d like something like this as well. I wrote a script to auto-download podcasts from the internet (not plex), and now they’re being organized funky in a music library.
I’m doing same thing, download and save as album. It will be nice to fav some feeds or specific episodes to automatically store them on my own server, even just semi-auto (meaning only add is auto, removal is manual) is great.
This is a very desired feature for me as the podcasting world does have an issue with disappearing content. I also doubt there would be any copyright issues as it’s trivial to grab podcasts from RSS files. They are typically not distributed with DRM.
I agree. As this is available for other modules in Plex, I would love to see this downloading and syncing for podcasts. It’s a really missed feature, as syncing must be done manually now.
I’ve been a Plex pass subscriber since 2012. Meaning I´ve been loyal to this platform for almost 8 years. As hard as I try I can’t explain to myself the rationale behind offering a platform for storing media that includes movies, photos and music and leaving the podcasts out of the equation. We all know that podcasts come, remain traceable and eventually some are archived and gone forever. This is why I’ve been using MediaMonkey for years to download and keep podcasts in private storage. And this is why I feel there’s a missing opportunity for Plex to apply its own engine to download, sort and label podcasts automatically and place them in storage in an unattended fashion. With the ability to later stream them through Plexamp while on the road. Which is precisely what I’ve been doing with the hundreds of CDs I own over the course of the years. As I said, I can’t wrap my brain around this. If there is a copyright issue preventing such feature then I would like to hear a confirmation from the developers so I can either look elsewhere or completely give up my aspirations. Thank you.
