Very strange that it gets the error when resuming from the Home screen or directly from the library but works just fine when selected from Downloads. Thank you for forwarding on to the devs and please let me know if I can provide any other logs or debug information. I have adb installed and can get full bug reports if needed.
Happy Monday @anon18523487 . Is there a place I can track the bug with the devs and/or provide more information?
Sorry, we don’t have a public bug tracker. Just keep watching this thread. I’ll update here if/when I have any news.
Hey @anon18523487., Checking in to see if you had any updates to share. Thanks!
Sorry no news yet, but we are working on something.
Good morning and happy Monday! Do you have any updates to share or maybe a rough timeline for a testing version? Thanks!
Good morning @anon18523487. Has there been any progress in getting downloaded media to play locally instead of streaming from the server? I just checked Android v9.6.0.34218 and the issue persists.
Sorry, I don’t have any news.
Hey @anon18523487, hope you are well. Checking in to see if there has been any progress on this. This can get expensive quickly when you have the downloaded content but you still end up streaming it. It’s been a little over 2-months and there have been 8 updates to the Android app that have not yet addressed this. Thanks for checking on it.
Good afternoon. Checking to see if there has been any progress here. Thanks!
Hey. This is still being looked into. There seems to be a couple of issues going on with this.
Thanks for checking into this. Is there anything else I can provide with logs or testing?
They think they know what is going on now but I don’t think a fix has been implemented yet. It seems to be not ignoring the quality setting in app and if that is lower than the quality of the download then it transcodes from server
I cleared the cache (not storage) and restarted and the problem is still there. If I resume a downloaded video from anywhere except the downloads section, it will stream from the server.
Happy Monday @BigWheel - checking in on status. Thanks!
Sorry i don’t see an update on that bug report.
I just switched to a new phone (Pixel 6 Pro) and downloaded 4 more episodes of my show. So far, all of them ignore the prefer downloaded content setting and stream from the server unless I select the show directly from the downloads section.
@BigWheel Any progress?
What version of PMS are you using now? There was a fix in 1.29.1. We might still need an update to the client, but can you give it a try and let us know.
I’m running PMS Version 1.29.0.6244 (plexinc/pms-docker:latest). Great to hear this should be fixed in the next version. Thanks!
I’ll update as soon as I’ve tested to confirm.
Unfortunately I have to report that the issue persists in Version 1.29.1.6316. I killed the Android app and did a fresh launch and then tried to resume the downloaded video from the continue watching dialog which opened a connection to the server and streamed (verified from Plex Dashboard Now Playing). I then killed the Android app again and went to download section and resumed the video and it did not show up on the now playing dashboard but did play locally.
I also tried deleting a downloaded file and re-downloading it to see if the metadata was somehow changed but it streamed when resumed from continue watching and directly from the library. Again, when selected from the Download folder, it was played locally.
I’ve uploaded PMS debug logs as well as client logs to the Google Drive folder I shared with @anon18523487 . Please let me know if there is anything else I can provide or anything I can do to assist in troubleshooting.
