I’m not sure whether this is server or player so posting in general.
I have some content that is 1920x800, HEVC @ 1Mbps.
My download settings are set to 720 @ 4Mbps.
It transcodes the videos despite the bitrate (1Mbps) being less than the target (4Mbps).
If I change the download settings to instead 1080 @ 8Mbps, it no longer transcodes it just downloads the original media.
I believe it is doing this based on the resolution, I believe this is unnecessary, I think the main reason people would configure these settings is to save space so they can fit more content on their device, however if the source bitrate is already lower transcoding it isn’t really going to help much, infact in this case it’s almost certainly going to be worse (resolution, size, and quality)…
Thoughts?
