Has anyone tested or know if the Drobo B810n with the Marvell 78460 Quad Core Processor support Plex Transcoding. I did not see this in the NAS support file list yet. Thank you
Only a Quad-core 1.6GHz and 2GB RAM. My phone is more-powerful and I wouldn’t depend on my phone to run PMS and transcode anything.
I am running a Drobo b810n, and so far it hasn’t been great with Plex. Streams fine on iOS and Samsung Smart Hub, yet refuses to solidly connect to Android Shield & Roku 3. Android Shield throws server connection errors, while Roku 3 loads endlessly.
Thank you for the update. That’s too bad…as a fan of Drobo and Plex, I wish Drobo would push out a beefier model for handling multiple apps and media transcoding
To update further, I was able to solve my issue between Plex and the DroboB810n, and all seems to be working great at long last. My problem had to do with the 810n’s multiple ethernet ports and turned out to be a simple wrong port issue. I had a static IP assigned to Port 1, added a DHCP license for the static IP, yet had the network connected to Port 2 which was then assigning a dynamic IP. Once it was all correctly connected, Plex started working perfectly. Just a little bit of infrequent choppiness at first while the library was populating, but otherwise functional.
System:
Drobo B810n
Apple Airport Extreme
AT&T Modem set as Passthrough
Android Shield
This is good news. I am getting close to making the purchase. Have you considered bonding both ethernet ports to maximize network traffic? Or has this been where the snag was.
My main concern was the ability to transcode video. Can you test to see, by disabling direct features on your client, if it will still play/transcode video over .avi, .mp4, or .mkv? My guess would be no, as some other forums indicate the atoms are not strong enough, but would be interesting to see.
Thank you
Hello, I was thinking about purchasing the Drobo B810n was wondering if you decided to purchase yours and if you had tried trans coding with it and how well that was working for you?
I currently still use mine, but I don’t depend on it for any transcoding. All my files are primarily .mkv and make all clients settings to direct play or play original. Was hoping Plex would have a server feature to force direct play. There is not much power to the drobo when it comes to transcoding, and I even have slowness when it comes to picture playback. I hope that Drobo develops a power or enthusiast nas device that’s decked out with high-end processing one day.
I am partial to Drobo as I do install them for clients for on a small/micro business deployments and paired with dual redundancy and either elephantdrive/ the now fileshadow is pretty solid
