@ChuckPA In another, now closed, thread, you recommended that any X18+ device would greatly benefit from a memory upgrade to 8GB. I have a ds1515+ that has the original 2Gb plus a 4GB stick for a total of 6GB. Would my ds1515+ similarly benefit from another 2GB (by replacing the factory 2GB with 4GB)? Thank you.
Yes, The DiskStations are greatly benefited by additional memory. 2GB is enough for a basic NAS but not when you add Plex to it. Plex is about 1GB when sitting idle and DSM (plus its pieces) have the other 1GB. Having both DIMMs as a matched set (kit) gives you an added boost and allows the CPU to jump into dual-channel mode (two operations concurrently). It doesn’t happen on every memory operation but when transcoding, it’s visible because the CPU is doing one thing and the ASIC in the GPU is doing another concurrently (e.g. co-processor style) on the DSx18+ machines. For us, it’s still very helpful. It’s about a 10% boost over normal single-channel operation. That’s worth it to me.
Since the DS1515+ memory is the same as my DS1815+ memory (one on the board and one behind drive 1),
