Duplicate a Plex Installation giving it a new identifier

I have successfully copied our Plex database from a Synology NAS to a recently acquired, and more powerful, QNAP using this process.

I assume there is some sort of unique identifier in each Plex server instance that is also copied because when both Plex servers are running I can only ever see one of them; it appears to be fairly random as to which I can see.

Is there some way I can modify one of the instances to give it a new identifier thus making both servers visible?

It’s a bit late for this occasion but I wonder for future reference if it’s as simple as ensuring I keep the original of a particular file in the receiving system when I do the copy (plexmediaserver.pid?).

Thanks.

Kevin

Yes, there is:

Thanks but that refers to a Windows machine while both the QNAP and Synology run some form of Linux.

The principle is the same.
On Linux, the Plex preferences are saved in a file called Preferences.xml
You need to find and edit it, thereby removing the above mentioned keys from it.

Don’t forget to end the plex server before editing the file.

Ah sorry, I didn’t realise they were pretty much the same and now I’ve followed your instructions it all works :).

Thanks very much.
