Duplicate TV show names, different years, only one series plays

Server Version#: all
Player Version#: all

I have been looking for a solution for this for some time, searching the forums, but I’ve not been able to identify any scenario like mine. I’m on the Plex Beta server versions.

I have two identically names series, The Planets, one from 1999 and one from 2017. All the files are named properly, PMS recognizes each series properly and displays them properly in PMS and all clients.

The problem occurs when trying to play the series from 2017; it always plays the media from 1999. Coincidentally, both series have 8 episodes and attempting to play any of the 2017 episodes results in the playing of the 1999 series, same corresponding episode number.

I have removed both series and re-added but each time each series is correctly identified, but only the 1999 content is played for either series.

Would love to find a solution to this one.

when you move the series out of your library, did you rescan and then do an ‘empty trash’ before putting them back ?

if not, then plex still remembers the original files and metadata.

how exactly are each series named ?

if you ‘get info’ on an episode, does it show more than 1 file ?

Pull up the Media Info for one of the 2017 episodes. What does it show for the file path?

Example:
web-mediainfo-1

Thanks for the quick responses. This forced me to take a closer look at my media. Looks like when I ripped the 2017 series, I must have had the wrong DVD in the reader.

The reason the same media plays for both series is, it is the same media, just named for each series.

Thanks, time for a do over.

nice catch!
