Dvb-t2 / dvb-s2

No, it’s just me, honest.

Please just answer my points, have you tried USB and PCI devices with PMS under Linux ?

I have and Freeview HD channels are not found, and its not due to licensing.

Can you point me to the licensing that states all PCI and USB cards are not allowed to use Freeview HD ?

@170bgrd as per my initial reply, tvheadend and tvhproxy will work if you want to use your existing HW.

@e10kstarfire Yes I’ve used both USB and PCI and it only worked when I used a special driver that I managed to get hold of from hauppauge dev department who stated the reasons why it would only work with that driver and not with the drivers that are supplied with both the USB devices and PCI cards.

This is why I know it comes down to licensing. So the only way to get around it is by using such things like tvheadend as you’ve posted.

Plex are very stricked when it comes to making sure they stick to licensing agreements and hence why we’ve not seen h.265 transcoding as yet on Plex.

Yes, the special drivers are covered here Hauppauge Support | Running WinTV TV tuners and HD PVR 2 under Linux (although I understand there are issues with this since that was published)

But Plex not tuning Freeview HD is not due to any licensing issue - again, I would love to see a link to something stating that.

Licensing is needed for the DVB-T2 demodulator for example, as per here https://www.sisvel.com/images/documents/DVB-T2/DVB-T2_License_Agreement_Consumer.pdf Sony is a DVB-T2 patent owner. I have a TBS 6284 card which has a Sony modulator, so TBS will then pay a fee to Sony for use of that.

Although I haven’t tried it wouldn’t surprise me if my cards work fine with Plex under Windows, as that uses BDA drivers.

@e10kstarfire As I stated, I got the drivers direct from them and not from their website. For some reason you’ve got stuck on it’s a DVB-T2 issue when it’s not.

Over the next few days I will look to see if I still have the files on my file server and if I do, then I will send you a message regarding sending the files to you so that you can see for yourself.

Sorry to resurrect an old thread but I just wanted to check something.

I am in the UK, and have Plex Server running on Windows 10, with two Hauppauge QuadHD cards.

Are you saying I should be having issues tuning UK DVB-T2 channels using Plex? Because as far as I know I’ve not had any issues. Have been running this set-up since just after Plex DVR launched (added second card Jan 2020). I’ve retuned many times since then.

Is this a new problem? I haven’t retuned for a few month, so are you saying if I do my set-up will break?

How does the issue manifest itself? Are the HD channels just not detected at all?

Was planning to retune today but maybe I won’t!

Thanks!

No, as per my previous update:

Thanks, hadn’t appreciated that the issue being talked about was/could have been Linux-only.
