So many people have been asking for support for Sat receivers (DVB-S2) to support Freesat. I think we all know that supporting fully encrypted channels is going to be either a no-no, difficult or via some kind of card in the receiver, but for the general free-to-air channels…
So please, Plex team, please tell us what’s going on here, if support is planned, if so, when, if not, why, etc. At the moment, the lack of this really prevents Plex being used as a full-feature media server for many of us.
I have a Digit R1 quad SAT>IP server running with PlexDVR… sometimes. It’s really bad and unreliable. Changing channels takes 15-ish seconds. It runs great (and fast) with all the SAT>IP capable TVs in the house, as well as with TvHeadend, EyeTV apps and Emby, though… kinda makes me regret getting the lifetime PlexPass. So it’s not the Digibit box, it’s Plex what’s causing the problems.
Right now, I’m really unhappy with Plex.
Awww…needs a bit more patience. I’m sure it’s being officially worked on (because it would be a major fail not to - not least for people like me with virtually no terrestrial reception), so I think we need to hang in.
What REALLY needs to change now is the useless presentation of the guide. Need to be able to select favourite channels, have those appear first, change the order, etc. It’s almost impossible to find stuff at the moment, at least with the mobile app. or TV app or Shield, etc.
Yes - it’s a huge issue. As far as I’m aware from hunting around, nothing has been done at all by the Plex team. There are a few independent initiatives, but none that appear to be stable and reliable. I’ve not even seen anything from the Plex developers that either suggests a strategy or indicates why nothing is being done. Frankly - if SatTV is a requirement for you (as it is for many because of terrestrial reception), Plex is really not your platform - not only because it’s not supported, but also because of the degree of apathy.
This is a chicken and egg situation. I am sure that a lot of people in Europe would use a satip tuner if they could in preference to terrestrial - less so in the US. Even some way to interface TVHeadend to Plex would be welcomed. But if no-one makes a start, it will never get going.
Every few months I google to see if there’s been any progress by Plex in supporting Freesat, always disappointed. No terrestrial reception means no PlexDVR for me, despite having lifetime PlexPass…
I am considering PLEX as a replacement for Windows Media Centre.
But before buying a plex pass, I wish to know if my DVB-S / DVB-S2 Tuners are supported in windows 10.
My tuner is a Digital Devices Cine S2 v7 with a dual CI and Canal digital CAM’s (Danish).
Used widespread in Europe. Web page www.digitaldevices.de.
Plex support page regarding Supported tuners only seem to cover DVB-T and DVB-C (terrestrial and cable). I.e. does not answer my question. May I suggest PLEX to expand the supported tuners list to include all supported tuners? And keep it uptodated:)
I have an XMLTV EPG Subscription and Canal digital also sends EPG on certain channels.
It all works fine with DVBViewer and of course WMC. My wife is happy with the WMC user interface, but DVBViewer is too engineering style.
Here to add my +1!
Like Bjorn above I am coming from an old Media Centre setup using DVBViewer to configure and supply the tuners.
Cant Plex use the same bridge method?
Wish we could have some feedback from the Plex team if Satellite support is even still being worked on.
Its almost working. I was able to find over 1000 channels on Astra 19.2E satellite with DVBSky S960 USB tuner.
But after a redo the search the DVR setup is unable to load channel mappings.
So the problem is not DVB-S2, its channel mapping/EPG setup.
@Coxeroni
The first time it worked. I was able to watch live tv, but some channels were missing, so I thought I should redo the search with “Simple A” setting.
But now when I enter the zip code the process stops at 96%-97% and after 1-2 minutes I see “Sender-Zuordnung konnte nicht geladen werden” which means something like “unable to load channel mapping”.
So, I think plex has a problem with EPG.
This is an absolute ■■■■. Just bought a Hauppage dvb-s card for my media PC and the advertised DVR functionality, for a card that us declared supported in the plex UI is unusable. I’d expect this on freeware, but I’ve paid a bloidy fortune over the years for a plexpass. Absolute shower.
