Thank you so much for this. Firefly (like others) is now finally in the correct DVD order.
I downloaded this plugin for Futurama, and reordered according to DVD order from thetvdb.com. When Plex rescans, season 1,3,6 and 7 are correct. Season 5 is missing and I have two season 2s, one is empty. The Season 2 I do have only shows 5 episodes and season 4 only shows 9. Specials is missing too.
How do I go about fixing this? I'm using the Windows version.
EDIT: Got it fixed, I removed the folder, rescanned/trashed removed items. I then added the folder again, rescanned and finally switched to the dvd order agent.
I believe I found a bug in relation to the show Happy Endings. This show was aired quite differently then it was on the DVD. When setting it for DVD Order the episode "Four weddings and a funeral (Minus three weddings and a funeral) vanishes from Plex.
Thank you for all your hard work!

This is because of an error on the TVDB website.
http://thetvdb.com/index.php?tab=season&seriesid=167571&seasonid=468648&lid=7&order=dvd
As you can see, the DVD order for Season 2 indicates that s02e21 doesn't exist and that the episode you refer to is s02e22. I have to believe that this is an error (probably just typographical) on the part of the people who maintain the website.
If you rename the file to "Happy Endings - s02e22", the dvdorder agent should be able to scan in the episode and attach the correct metadata.
Alternatively, you could contact the TVDB website and have them correct what appears to be a typographical error in the episode numbering.
In any event, I'm fairly confident that it's not a failing of the agent but rather a failing of the database it is querying.

Thank you! I will give that a shot. I think it is further confused by the fact that the offending episode shows up on the Season 3 page even through it is listed in Season 2 via the DVD. Seems the network did a real number on this show!
Does there happen to be a list of shows that this is the most beneficial for? So far I have found...
Firefly
Leverage
Star Trek
Happy Endings
Futurama
Aqua Teen Hunger Force/Aqua Unit Patrol Squad/Aqua Something You Know Whatever
Honestly, it's tough to know ex ante. An ambitious person could iterate over the entries on TVDB and generate a list of entries where DVD order 1) exists and 2) is different from aired order so we had a master list. I am not that ambitious person. I just scan with the default agent and if, in watching them I discover that there is an ep labeled wrong, I check this first.
Thank you! And thanks also for using Firefly as the screenshot
Not often I post on these kind of things, but felt it was justified.
Just wanted to say thanks for putting in the effort to create this plugin. I too stumbled across this whilst trying to get Firefly to sit on Plex in the correct order. Farscape is next.
Followed the instructions and it worked a treat. I did need to wait a couple of minutes to let everything scan in correctly, but expecting it to happen instantly was due to a lack of patience on my part. :P
Also thanks to the earlier post with the zipped version for us humble Windows users :)
Having a problem that was brought up many posts ago: On Deck is not respecting the DVD ordering. Watching Arrested Development, On Deck served up s01e04 then e06 then e05 of the DVD ordered episodes (which is the correct ordering of the aired episodes). Anyone else seeing this?

Hmm... I don't know how the On Deck feature serves up episodes, but I believe that is a client feature so you might want to ask in the forum dedicated to the particular client you are using. The devs there may know better how the On Deck feature works and why it isn't functioning as you expect.
Good luck. Keep us posted.
I am still having an issue with Batman the Animated Series. I can get the DVD sort plugin to work just fine, but then sees 3 seasons, there are 4.
The titles in the 3 are accurate but the cost is the missing 4th season. All files named with the S0xE0x format. I have removed, cleared trash, restarted PMS. But the results are the same when using the regular sort all 4 seasons with incorrect order, with sort correct names no 4th season.
Thinking of throwing in the towel and rearranging the files to meeting the DBs expectations.
Figured it out. The show while sold as Seasons 1-4 was actually 3 Seasons of Batman The Animated Series and 1 season of the New Adventures of Batman.......very thing is kosher. I can now rest my weary head.
Thanks for the plugin worked great on the issues with Season 1-3.
FYI -- the issues with On Deck are because that feature uses the air date to order the episodes. So, for shows like Arrested Development, where the aired order != watch order, On Deck will serve the episodes up in the incorrect order. For now there is no way to fix this...

i know it is a pain to do for many episodes but you can just manually change the originally available date which is the air date plex gets from thetvdb
...
Updated: now will work with episodes that don't have a DVD order set, like current seasons, or specials.
Does this mean it can now be used as a primary agent for a section rather than having to go through the hassle of per-series?
Also, I notice that instead of a .bundle the file is now .plexapp. I assume it still belongs in the Plug-Ins folder?

Check page 7 for an updated .bundle. The .plexapp extension files have to be installed somehow that I'm not familiar with.

I've followed your instructions, including the TV Shows.xml thing and I still don't have this listed as an agent.
I had to create a Library folder in my plexmediaserver folder and I copied the files in the paths you specified, as well as the "default" places (/usr/lib/plexmediaserver/Resources/Plug-ins and /usr/lib/plexmediaserver/Resources/Plug-in Support)
So in other words, I tried twice, copying the files to their respective locations and chmodding/chowning. I still don't get the new sorting agent.
Any chance you could provide some insight? Much thanks for maintaining this and fixing it up for ATHF(one of my all time favorite shows!)
the bundle file goes here
/var/lib/plexmediaserver/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server/Plug-ins/
the TvShows.xml goes here
/var/lib/plexmediaserver/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server/Plug-in Support/Metadata Combination/com.plexapp.agents.thetvdbdvdorder/
Does this agent work correctly on the latest plexpass (synology) build 0.9.8.1? Ive followed the instructions and restarted PMS many times; I am unable to see the agent.
Can anyone assist? Does this work with the latest build?... I have followed the instructions several times and still no go.
