I am just getting this set up today and I am having trouble with how the dvr is saving my recording to my library. I have a TV folder set up and its saving to a .grab folder within that folder just fine, but then the next level in the file structure is a bunch of folders with garbage names (i’m including a screenshot for reference). No show titles no seasons nothing like that. I had a lot of trouble getting anything to show up in my library at all however when i manually added the .grab folder it organizes it with these garbage file names. I cant figure out how to fix this. I am using an HdHomeRun Connect
The .grab folder is a temporary folder that the DVR uses to record a program. Once a recording is complete, it should be moved to the correct folder for that recording. You should remove the .grab folder from the TV Shows library Settings so that it doesn’t try to add the temp files & folder names.
More likely the recordings are not completing and getting ‘stuck’ in the .grab folder. I’m not sure there is a fix yet for the stuck recordings but you can search this forum for more examples of it.
Okay i fixed it in case anyone else is having these issues. go to the .grab folder in file explorer, right click on it and go to properties. then click on the third tab “Security”. for each user I allowed full control which gives the program the ability to make changes to this folder. Next make sure to restart your plex server and it should delete the old files in that folder. it didnt save any thing from it, all files in the .grab folder were deleted on my end so if you want to save anything make sure to back them up ahead of time. my next recording, recorded and moved to my library as it was expected.
