DVR Playback/Recording Issues

When is the DVR going to be reliable and actually work as intended? I believe Plex DVR was released in 2017 and it still feels like something I got on wish.com sometimes.

Every football season I hope that “bugs” will be worked out and they never are…

For example, today, I was recording the replay of the packers 1st preseason game which started at 9:00 am. Less than an hour into the recording, I opened Plex up on my phone and opened the recording to verify it was recording. I only watched a minute or 2 on my phone because I intended on watching it later.

Fast Forward to 12:00pm, I open Plex up again and found it stopped recording sometime around the time I began watching so now I only have like 47 minutes of the entire game? So frustrating dealing with this.

I know it’s my opinion, but I can’t believe after so many years I have to hold my breath sometimes hoping something records without an issue. Bugs never seem to get fixed and we always hear “Were working on it, there is no timeline” e.g the recording certain teams bug, that was reported a year ago I think? and I still can’t automatically record a certain team?

I Love Plex, I use it daily for music, movies, and DVR, but it gets really frustrating dealing with constant DVR bugs whether it be missed recordings, time shifting issues, unable to record teams, EPG issues…Another thing I experience is an issue will get fixed, but then something else will breaks or a past bug reappears. It’s been a constant revolving door for 5 years…

Yes, I too have been extremely disappointed with Plex LIve TV/DVR. There’s always a handful of serious core functional regressions/problems that don’t seem to get fixed in anything like a timely manner – and I’m talking about time frames like 6, 9 or even 12 months. By the time the regressions get fixed, there’s been another handful of serious core functional regressions. And I’m talking about issues like not being able to watch live tv and not being able to record the programs you want to record (especially sports).

Eventually, I just had to accept the feeling that I’d been defrauded by Plex and moved to something far more reliable – and that happens to be free.

My advice really is to move on and use something else for your TV/DVR needs. Record to a Plex library folder if you still want to use Plex as your media manager/player. For me, I got sick of the parade of playback regressions too and I moved to another media manager/player.

The bottom line is that I no longer have the feeling of “how’s it not going to work today” when I go to the living room to watch something.

I’ve had the same issue where plex says the OTA TV recording was successful, and transcoding works at the end of the recording but no file to watch is made.

I am checking to be sure there is not a permissions issue on my drive for new recordings, and also seeing if the file was created but “0” in size… Been attempting to trouble shoot this a few months now. I had reverted to an older version of the media server and that seemed to work for while but then issue started up again.

It’s also spotty, as in random as to what shows are recorded and what ones are not saved. All show successfully recorded (no errors in the GUI such as tuner failure, storage space failure).

Here’s an example of the GUI and the Logs. I have yet to comb through them completely.

I and others have had this issue. I have posted logs like below only to never get a response from anyone affiliated with Plex or a fix in close to a year now in any updates.

I just keep posting in hopes I will find a answer or see a fix.

Can you please provide the names of the DVR & Manager/Player you have moved to?
I believe it’s always good to compare what we have to what’s out there & pre-tested by existing users!

The Time Shifting issue is a thorn in my side… I love Plex and having Live TV is awesome, but unable to record at a reliable time is completely unacceptable. How are users suppose to cut the cord and use Plex solely for everything if this simple issue is not addressed?
