DVR Recording - Streaming Pile of Goo!

today about 20 recordings failed and it says i have 18 recording now…

I only have 2 tuners. my .grab folder is full of empty folders and 2 .ts files

My Apple TV 4 has barely played any of the HD DVR recordings…the new update to the iOS Plex client release today has managed to now kill the one and only working client I had!

The DVR is beyond a pile of poo…it’s certainly not beta and I’d suggest it’s barely even at alpha stage…

Suffering from the same issues here…

I reverted back to 1.6.1.3722 and the DVR is stable again.

Same problems here as well. HDHR Extend with June 2017 Beta firmware and Plex 1.7.6.4058 on Windows 10. I checked my DVR a little while ago and about 20 hung recordings all showing 100% since yesterday. Reboot the server and none of those recordings are available. What a bummer. The DVR had been working reliably. I was experimenting with MCEBuddy and comskip thinking those were the culprits. I don’t have any post processing scripts going on now and recordings are still hanging.

I was having this same plex recording hang issues with atsc tuning on hdhr3-us… I resolved it by moving my antenna higher/closer to vent opening in my attic and adjusting until channel levels were good. It seems like if the recording starts with poor reception it hangs. Have not had a single failure/stuck recording since.

I have been doing some thinking on this issue and was wondering if the issue isn’t related to viewing Live TV. I had issues as well, reverted back to 1.6.1 for a while, upgraded to 1.7.6 a few weeks ago and quit using Live TV from my iPhone, mainly because the novelty wore off don’t really want to watch Live TV on my iPhone anyway. I haven’t had any hung recordings with 1.7.6 since I upgraded and quit using Live TV. Just a thought, might not be related to each other.

I think you might be right. I didn’t see any issues until I tried the live tv from my iPhone.

I’m having this problem too. It just started within the last few releases. DVR is unusable right now. Mu guess is that it has something to do with changing the Transcode settings to only use MPEG Transport Stream containers. Back when it was MKV everything worked fine.

Running 1.7.6 on Ubuntu 16.04.2 LTS with HDHomerun Prime, firmware version 20170612beta1 on Comcast.

As mentioned before, recording work fine on ver 1.6.x If your after stability with this feature, downgrade!

Where can I download 1.6.x? Plex doesn’t seem to host their old versions for some strange reason.

i downgraded my synology to 1.6.1 last night and its back to recording. its sad that i had to do this.

You can download the old version from plex if you know the file name. its still there.

@“refujee@gmail.com” See my post here on how to download previous Plex versions from their servers. Note this will not work for some environments that Plex sends you to an App store to get the software.

Thanks for that @johnm_ColaSC Here’s the link for anyone else that may need it:

https://downloads.plex.tv/plex-media-server/1.6.1.3722-4955e31cf/plexmediaserver_1.6.1.3722-4955e31cf_amd64.deb

I am using Windows 10. You can go to C:\Users<username>\AppData\Local\Plex Media Server\Updates or %localappdata%\Plex Media Server\Updates and see a list of folders of all the previous versions that you installed. If you skipped a version, then there will not be a folder for that version. Inside each folder is the exe to install that version.

@rodgerzeisler provided you allow Plex Server to auto update or click the link in the Web UI to update. I personally quit allowing Plex to update itself so the last version I have in that folder is 1.4 something. I do keep all of the manually downloaded updates but not everyone does.

@johnm_ColaSC I have been using the “click the link in the UI” to update for some time. I have 1.0.0 to 1.7.6 with 20+ releases in between.

Isn’t that what I said? I quit using the link so I don’t have the newer versions in my appdata folder.

Thanks for the comments, everyone. I used johnm_ColaSC’s method to get 1.6 and everything’s good again.

For anyone else who may be wondering, I knew downgrading was an option, but I was always hesitant because I thought I’d lose my settings (My Synology DSM OS doesn’t allow a downgrade without first uninstalling). Turns out all of my libraries, users, recording schedule, and other data were still there afterwards.

I can confirm going to version 1.6 on my QNAP fixes the problem.
