Server Version#: Version 4.12.3
I don’t use the recommended filing convenction of Music/ArtistName – AlbumName/TrackNumber – TrackName but rather have named all my music files as ArtistName - TrackName.mp3 and put them all my Music folder. In the metadata, I totally disregard the album names and simply make the AlbumName the exact same as the ArtistName.
This was working perfectly in Plex until recently. Now, for some reason that I cannot figure out, about 20 of my 200 albums show up with each track in an album having its own album listing (with the generic album art no less!)
I’ve checked the metadata in each of these tracks that have their own album listings and compared them to the other 2,000 tracks or so that don’t have this problem, and they are identically laid out.
Any ideas of how to fix this will be much appreciated. (If I can’t find a fix, I’m going to have to play music from either Windows Media Player or iTunes Player where this problem does not exist).
Thanks.

^^^ That is the issue. Plex cannot handle this.
But that doesn’t explain why Plex does in fact handle 90% of my music library organized in this manner and, up until recently, handled 100% of it. Must be something I can do to fix the remaining 10%.
Best solution is to follow the naming quidelines.
So I took one album that was problematic and organized it according to music/ArtistName/ArtistAlbum/Track.mp3.
Still didn’t solve the problem. Each track still showed up as being separate albums.
Edit your music library,
go to the ‘Advanced’ tab
what is the status of the checkbox ‘Prefer local metatags’?
What is set for Agent and Scanner?
What is in the embedded metatags of the tracks of this album?
Do they have identical content in their AlbumArtist and AlbumTitle tags?
Are the Track# tags filled?
Agents: Local Media Assets for both Artists and Albums checked and on top. (I got this suggestion from another post on the forum.)
Prefer Local Metatags is checked
Identical content for AlbumArtist and AlbumTitle.
Track # tags not filled.
I was not referring to these Agent settings. (They are not relevant to the new music code.)
I meant the drop-down selectors on the same page as the ‘Prefer embedded metadata’ checkbox.
Do you have other albums by that same album artist?
Trigger ‘Refresh Metadata’ on the whole artist.
I refreshed metadata. No change.
I have some artists where I did metatag multiple albums and those are working correctly.
And I have some artists with multiple albums (The Beatles for example) where it is not working correctly.
So what are Scanner and Agent set to now?
Where exactly is Scanner and Agent located? Can’t seem to find them now for some reason.
I meant the drop-down selectors on the same page as the ‘Prefer embedded metadata’ checkbox.
Yeah. sorry can’t find Prefer embedded metadata now either.
Edit your music library,
go to the ‘Advanced’ tab
What is set for Agent and Scanner?
Found it…
Scanner: Plex Music Scanner
Agent: Personal Media Artists
This means that your library hasn’t been converted to use the new music code.
You can try to keep these settings, but they are not exactly supported anymore.
If you change them both to ‘Plex Music’, you will be using the new music support with muscibrainz.org as the main datasource.
However, I am pretty sure that this will create even more havoc with your existing folder organisation.
So I’d try another strategy first:
Populate the Track# meta tag of all tracks in this album.
Then perform the Plex Dance “light” (step 4 can be omitted) with this album/artist.
How about this. I’d like to delete my Plex Music library altogether, then add it back in again with a fresh start. Can’t seem to delete the whole Music library. How do I do this?
If you do this, you will have to change your folder structure to the recommended way first, or it will get worse.
‘Deleting’ libraries is in the same place as ‘editing’ libraries.
Got some real problems now! Each album now shows a number of tracks but the song names have all been changed to be the same thing!
