Excellent, just installed the image
Thanks @Lamarios
Works great but shows 2.7.0 instead using PlexMediaPlayer-2.8.0.1-1be248f4.Generic-x86_64.img, not sure why.
Anyways, Iām glad I switched to embedded to get back Display Mode Switching on my HTPC (Intel HD).
To be honest I havenāt tested the 2.8.0 version yet. Iāll check it out when i have a bit of time.

A few of us havenāt waited and we have just compiled the community version of Plex Media Player. Iām running 2.8 on a RPi2 now. Happy to share the image.
I have seen their build page, itās not terribly informative. The MacOS instructions appear to bleed into the Linux instructions, with no Info on how or where you define a RPi or x86 option.
Iād love it if they would post these in the Nightlyās here⦠but until it makes more since, i fear that most of us just have to wait.
@wesman, I donāt know why they havenāt shared more recent builds. A few of us have made our builds available. Again these are not the official Plex releases. The build is the community version. Functionality wise its on par with their official releases for Windows/Mac.
Iām building PMP 2.9 now for RPi2/3 and will move to that soon myself. I can build an x86 generic version as well.

x86 build is always welcome. Iām using a build by @Lamarios and itās working great. itās version 2.8 I believe.
I really appreciate the community efforts to fill the gap until Plex decides to release an embedded version again. thanks guys.
Possible to get a tar version for easy upgrading?

does he have a TAR for the x86 posted somewhere? I would love to get a copy
You could always use the full image to update (the img.gz).

Yep, could do it with that too. you mentioned that you got a build by @Lamarios is it posted somewhere for the rest of us mortals?

Iāve been building the image myself for x84_64. I just set up a cron to build it every day and update my one drive folder:
when I install this version, i get
āNever Touch boot= in extlinux.conf / cmdline.txtā
āIf you donāt know what your doingā
āNormal startup in 60s⦠40ā

I was able to determine that it isnt going to work when I install it to another USB Drive, had to install it to the internal memory for it to work. BUT
Now SSH will not connect⦠it just says āConnection Refusedā

The RPi2 build for 2.9 is ready, I will upload and make it available. I will compile a Generic one now as well.
Its still uploading but the link is https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1vq0GfXEgYSkx_lUSimkEc56GRg99OMlr?usp=sharing
I canāt provide support for the builds, and these are not the official Plex builds. Iām hoping that they will release an official one soon.
AWESOME, @rolandbird you are the best!!! are you still going to build the X86 version too?
@wesman, Yes itās been building overnight here and still going. Will upload to the same URL when ready.
@wesman, the Generic x86_64 builds are uploading now. About 4 hours to go.
Now SSH will not connect⦠it just says āConnection Refusedā
You have to enable SSH under the new āSystemā settings
Official embedded version of 2.9 uploaded today:
