Scrolling through the channel guide in the Android TV app is an absolute chore. Unless I’m missing something, there is no way to do so quickly. Whereas in the Roku app, you can repeatedly hit the dedicated FF or RW buttons to trigger page-up/page-down, and in the tvOS app, you can scroll very quickly using the touchpad or by just holding down the direction you want, the Android TV app by contrast step-step-steps from one channel to the next, even if you’re holding down the ‘down’ or ‘up’ button and clearly want to get to a different block of channels quickly. This is frustrating and kind of silly, and should be changed as soon as possible.
Please take this under consideration: especially if there are no plans to be able to customize the guide in-client (e.g. through a favorites list, hd channels list, or similar), being able to very quickly scroll through the available channels is essential. It is terribly frustrating to jump from one block of channels to another right now, and that’s a shame–the Android TV client is actually rather capable and responsive, and I like it a lot otherwise.
ED: Upon getting my Harmony Remote to work again (using FLIRC), it appears that you can at least page through channels using the channel up-down buttons. However, they work the opposite way from what would be natural–in other words, channel up moves the screen down (even though this does in fact move the screenview to where the higher-numbered channels are) and channel down moves the screen up. Switching this functionality would be make sense. That said, these buttons do not exist on the official Shield TV remote and don’t necessarily exist on the remotes of other Android TV boxes. Simply holding ‘down’ should result in much, much faster scrolling than is currently implemented, and that should remain a priority.
