So I usually use handbrake for my encoding which works just fine, my question however is the pre work I do before I can plug something into handbrake…specifically the subtitles
Most movies are great, I rip the movie from my bluray collection with makemkv then quickly look at my options for subtitles, I usually pick the one without the HI stuff and encode it into my finished mkv with handbrake… I dont burn it in or anything as its only there in case I need the volume to be low or an actor doesn’t speak clearly…
As I am sure you know there are a few movies that are pains as they dont burn in their own foreign dialogue… for those I go about a different process… now I know there are ppl who hate this but its my personal collection so I do what I want 
I burn foreign speaking parts into the mkv… again easy to do, I just find the track add it in handbrake and click burn in.
Its that other track that I find difficult, as much as I try not to be… certain little things drive me nuts… one of double subtitles are one of those things… And the typical english track also has the foreign dialogue that I just burned into my mkv… granted I Wont be watching that subtitle track much but just knowing it is doubling up is enough to set off my OCD or whatever you wanna call it and I just cant let well enough alone… trust me I’ve tried I’ve also tried instead of burning the foreign track in using the other options such as default etc… and it works some of the time and Ive noticed some of the time it wont… so in the end I always revert back to burning it in.
So what I do in these cases is I rip out all the english subtitles using mkvcleaver so I can see them, then I look at the foreign parts only part… at first I converted the main subtitle track to srt but that ended up taking too much time so now I just go to subscene.com and download the already edited .srt … so using the foeign track I just ripped and the main track I just downloaded I then use SubtitleEdit to manually delete from the downloaded .srt any duplicate lines in the foreign part only track… once that is done I simply go into handbrake as before, only this time instead of adding the full subtitle track I just import the one I Just edited and ofc add the foreign track and then encode it. (of course before I even do the editing I ensure the downloaded srt track is synced correctly)
Now my question is simple… subscene sometimes gets it wrong since someone somewhere had to do as I started off and ripped the .sup file and converted it to a .srt file which is an imperfect process… so is there a way to delete a some lines from a ripped .sup subtitle without converting it to .srt? and then somehow get that .sup file back into a mkv file? to me it seems like that would be the ideal way to go about what I want… I just don’t know how.
