I would like to see an option for the Optimize feature that allows me to modify the original content, not just transcode to a different device.
I have quite a bit of content that I would like to keep for archival purposes and for viewing occasionally over time (older TV shows, for example). However, the original quality is much higher than necessary and the content consumes much disk space (almost 1TB for one TV series as an example).
This feature would allow a user to select the target quality for the original content file so that it takes up less disk space at lower quality settings. This transcoded target would then replace the original file.
I realize this could be achieved through a number of various methods outside of Plex (and some inside tricks), but it would be nice if the media management happened in one spot.
