I just setup DVR today with EPG now taking over 8 hrs to download. The percent is increasing but why does it take so long to download. It will never update automatically if it takes this long to download manually.

In my situation on windows 10 it takes what feels like 5 minutes, very low network bandwidth usage. While its running my disk IO is through the roof doing lots of small random io. So it could just be its inefficient in how it uses its “database” and processes updates to it. Wonder if there is a way to move/repoint the EPG database to a USB stick, I don’t want to put an SSD in the computer just for the EPG database.
I have the same problem and I am running it on Windows 10. I turned my Plex server off for a while as the power supply fan is a bit noisy, but now it is back on and the EPG is 52% after a couple of hours. My internet connection is not super fast but it is enough for Netflix so I do not think bandwidth would be a problem here. My situation is that TiVo has recently closed for business in Australia and my TiVo is now just a boat anchor. I thought I could use Plex as a replacement, but if the EPG is not going to be accurate then I do not think it will pass the spouse test.
My setup is
- Windows 10 on an i5-6400 2.7Ghz, 16Gb RAM
- SSD for Windows
- 4x4tb HDD using Stablebit DrivePool for storage
- Hauppauge TV-QuadHD 1628 tuner card
This is dedicated to Plex at the moment so it should be easily sufficient to handle the load. There are no customisations to anything. I just installed the hardware, then windows, updated drivers, installed Plex and everything just worked…well, apart from this really slow EPG issue and the noisy PSU fan. I think I have it all set up properly, but if anyone has any ideas on how to improve the performance of the EPG updates or secret squirrel DVR config tips, I would be happy to hear them.

I just checked and it the EPG seemed to have completed, but the program guide just says “The Program Guide is empty”.

I deleted the tuners and re-added them and the EPG downloaded in about 20 minutes.
All good now.
