Currently Plex only supports tuners of the same type either all OTA or all Cable, but not one or more each. Limitation is caused by only having one EPG for all DVR/tuner devices. An OTA EPG would be different than a Cable EPG.
Each device should have it’s own EPG selection to overcome this limitation.
I am trying to have a set of tuners in a different EPG area than another set of tuners. Because They are picking up channels from different EPG zones (or “area codes”) can’t get both sets of tuners to sync up, it tried to match the EPG of the first tuner against the 2nd tuner which can have a totally different program information such as channel mappings. If it is per tuner zones, then each tuner could be assigned a different zip code which is turn would allow to the proper channel mappings and EPG.
I would like to use 2 tuners, one cable-card, and one over the air. I would like to use a HDHR EXTEND so I can transcode DVR/Live TV when recording/watching a local channel, while also having my HDHR PRIME for all of my cable channels when recording/watching…
Basically, this is how the Channels App on iOS/tvOS handles multiple tuners. it just adds the OTA frequency channel numbers to the main guide, combining them… and this works perfectly!
This way, I can select which channel when viewing the guide, or scheduling a recording.
I would think this may get more popular as not everyone has a system that can transcode multiple streams of MPEG2 on the fly… using the EXTENDs to handle the transcoding on the fly significantly cuts down the need for having such a powerful system capable of transcoding/recording/viewing live tv.
just my $0.02… thanks for everything else you guys do!
