Error casting to Chromecast

I do not believe hunting through the forums for a similar thread will help solve this.

I will summarize

  • Media which has streamed flawlessly for years suddenly throws a ‘something went wrong’ and fails to stream to my Chromecast
  • This ONLY happens when streaming to CHromecast.
  • If I start the playback on my phone and then cast it it usually works.
    Plex server is on a CentOS 7.x virtual machine hosted by VMware 6.7U3b on an Intel CTO rack server running 2 Xeon Silver 4208 CPUs, 256G RAM and Intel 2T solid state drives
    The same media plays when accessed from any other player.

The CentOS vm is assigned 8 vCPUs, 16G RAM and 256G disk. The media library is hosted on a standalone CentOS 7.x system whose sole purpose is to host the media. Connection of the PMS to the library l;ocation is via permanently mounted NFS share. This has not changed in YEARS.

  • what client are you using to cast
  • what Chromecast device are you using

Please recreate the issue and provide the log from the client and from PMS. You can find instructions for getting logs from PMS in our support article Plex Media Server Logs | Plex Support. Our support articles also has info on getting logs from the client, but I don’t know what you are using so I can’t provide a link.

The cast target is a Chromecast3. It is a little over a year old. The client is a Plex app on an android phone (Galaxy S9 T-Mobile). The issue happened the last time I streamed to the chromecast on Saturday. I am providing what logs I have now. Looks like the info from Saturday has rolled over and is not in your log anymore. Will need new logs after recreating the problem.

I did not have time to watch any tv last night and probably won’t tonight either. Work calls. With so many folks working from home, my business has been slammed. And, yes, that is a great problem to have.

I tried casting to my Shield from my Android phone and it streamed fine. :man_shrugging:
