Error issuing curl_easy_perform(handle) 28

Hi,

I have been using plex for some time on windows where it works normally, the server is installed and I even can browse it from my fire stick tv attached to the tv.

Then I decided to install Linux Ubuntu 19 on an old Acer Revo 70 (not so old, it previously ran on windows 10) because I thought It could be more reactive (I was wrong anyway).

In installed plex both with the package from the site and from the software center.
The result is always the same, I’m never able to claim the server,I always get errors.

I’m attaching the log, because I see different errors after the one above (error issuing curl_easy_perform(handle) 28).

If I access to plex.tv I never see the server on my account.
The same when I open the plex app on my fire stick.

The server is never showed. In fact, when I go to Settings ->General it says “This server is unclaimed and not secure. Claiming this server will associate it with your Plex account”.

Any help is appreciated.

Have you tried this article?

this has nothing to do with the common error, I have had this error for so long and I dont know it it is attributing to anything.

the attached article is citing a error 60, ours is a 28, it is actually different

However I do not believe this error actually causes issues as I have had it for years and nobody has stated an issue or that I can track down to this.

The AMD E-450 APU (CPU) is profoundly below the minimum required Passmark rating of 700 for PMS to run correctly.

This is the root cause of the timeout messages. The CPU is too slow.

The E-450 is rated at 409

It first appeared on the performance charts in 2011.

The best recommendation here is to get a newer / better CPU.
This CPU will not run Plex.

This is my CPU and I get this error on startup and periodically in the logs

I’ve had it for years though on my server and I don’t think it causes any issues.

Please allow me to rephrase.

I am the curator of the NAS Compatibility List.
That list shows everything Plex is supported on in the NAS world.

To be added to that list, a NAS must have a minimum CPU performance of 700 Passmarks.

Those above 400 but below 700 are flagged in Yellow with a warning.

Anything below 400 is removed or rejected.

Your CPU is 409.

The normal CPU load PMS required, regardless how it used to be, has grown.

What makes matters worse, which I hear from friends using windows all the time is how heavy Win 10 has become.

Timeouts are because the CPU can’t do the work in time.

and I’m saying the original OP may have an under powered server, however my CPU and GPU are more than enough and I still get this error on startup. and periodically throughout the logs

it doesn’t actually seem to effect anything so I don’t really care, but the explanation that it is a timeout error I don’t buy

clean DB, Clean Bundles, fresh start

added debug logs on startup for you to see

debug_easycurl.zip (1.7 MB)

I am the one that oriinally posted.

I get it, the cpu is too old although I used to run a pms on that server until a few years ago. But very likely it was an older version of plex with lower hardware requirements.
I underestimated the fact that I bought that mini pc 8 years ago.

That said, I know that Windows is heavy. That’s why I tried to install ubuntu on that mini pc.
I can tell you it’s even slower, even after I replaced the original hd with a ssd.

I guess I just need to try another server.

Thanks again.
Federico

I literally just said thats not the issue, I have a server CPU and it gets the error on startup… so thats not the reason for the error

Hello Miniserver1, I read your post and I wasn’t just ignoring it.
I searched everywhere for this error, that apparently might seem the same error that you get…
The main error is alway 28, but often the error afterwards is different and event the solutions that people found are different.

However, in my log, after the error 28 there is another error (that I don’t see in your log)
HTTP simulating 408 after curl timeout.
I think this is the one ChuckPa was referring to.

I think we might have different issues. One thing is sure, my mini pc is extremely slow with ubuntu.

yeah the http error after yours is most likely the underlying issue, I do not have these in my logs and always just the '28" easycurl issue… Im tempted on testing on other hardware to see what happens however this is the most powerful PC I have available to me with dedicated graphics (Quadro) so I dont think Id change… maybe an OS refresh? Database refresh? these things would take days to do so I’m not sure I want to investigate further.

essentially none of my users have reported issues I just see this in the logs and nowhere have I seen a reason or solution.

even submitted the debug logs on startup for it above

I have this same error right now on a Qnap. it looks like it connects so i can access it outside my home. but after a bit i keep see that error .
