Issue claiming server

Server Version#: 1.13.10.352

Plex prompted me to download the latest version, which I did download on my server. I installed and got no errors. Now the server is showing it is unclaimed and isn’t showing the latest version installed. I have attempted to claim the server but it fails with no errors thrown.

JS Console shows:
XML Parsing Error: no root element found Location: http://localhost:32400/player/proxy/poll?deviceClass=pc&protocolVersion=1&protocolCapabilities=timeline%2Cplayback%2Cnavigation%2Cmirror%2Cplayqueues&timeout=1&X-Plex-Product=Plex%20Web&X-Plex-Version=3.69.1&X-Plex-Client-Identifier=qe4pfdxkulj26va4a09ykbhd&X-Plex-Platform=Firefox&X-Plex-Platform-Version=66.0&X-Plex-Sync-Version=2&X-Plex-Device=Linux&X-Plex-Device-Name=Firefox&X-Plex-Device-Screen-Resolution=2560x1278%2C2560x1440&X-Plex-Language=en Line Number 1, Column 1:

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Zach

Please state Linux distro, as well as provide a zip of logs in debug mode, instead of a small snip

Please make a tar.gz of the Logs directory and attach it if you are unable to have PMS give you its standard ZIP file.

I am currently running Ubuntu 18.10, and sorry for the lack of logs, I thought the Javascript error would be helpful.

Is there anything else I should check that could be causing my Ethernet connection to be inaccessible to Plex?

Sorry for delay.

Is this a real host or VM ?

Real host.

Ok. The only way this can happen, which I’ve seen, is if the startup of the services happens before the network adapter is finished.

As a test, Stop Plex,. wait 30 seconds, restart it. Let’s see what happens then.

I attempted to stop the plexmediaserver service with the command
service plexmediaserver stop and got the error message Failed to stop plexmediaserver.service: Unit plexmediaserver.service not loaded.

I then executed service --status-all and did not see plexmediaserver listed there.

I installed Plex via the “Ubuntu Software Center” and it has been working, perhaps something got corrupted after I recently updated it?

ouch. that is s snap package.

Please download from plex.tv/downloads and use sudo dpkg -k filename.deb

Installed version Version 1.15.2.793 using sudo dpkg -i filename.deb, still was unable to claim the server, purged the installation. Used this time as an excuse to do a clean install of my OS and then tried to install again, and still cannot claim the server.

Best next step is to soft-reset and go incognito provided the server is a) Local and b) the LAN addressing is RFC-1918 Private Lan compliant (10,x,x,x, 192.168.x.x, 172.16.x.x-172.31.x.x addressed).

  1. Stop Plex
  2. Rename Preferences.xml to Preferences.xml.old
  3. Start Plex
  4. sign out of Plex/web (upper right corner)
  5. Open an INCOGNITO window
  6. http://lan.ip.of.server:32400/web in that incognito window
  7. Sign in
  8. Got it
  9. Start setup – proceed normally EXCEPT
  10. Give it a different name than it was before (Friendly name) so you can identify it.
  11. Do not create any Library sections. Your existing ones survive the soft reset
  12. Skip library creation
  13. Continue with other preferences.
  14. Finish and be at the dashboard, signed in
  15. Settings - Devices - Remove the old server name
  16. Restart Refresh all metadata for one library section.
  17. see how that goes.

If all goes well, then keep going
if not, Pull the logs and attach please.

I’ve tried it twice now with no luck, thanks for all of your help by the way.

Is it time to give up and install Windows hehe?

Do you have an older version of Plex I could roll-back to, because I do miss my Plex?

I am having a very similar issue. I am getting the same error with curl. I will try pinging plex.tv when I get back home, I am away right now. Oddly enough, I can log in (and Plex is able to tell me if my login is valid or not). I previously used a Jellyfin server with certbot, and I disabled the nginx config for reverse proxy before switching to Plex. I don’t think this is related (because OP said he was a prior Plex user), but just FYI.

In addition, PlexOnlineToken is null in preferences.yml.

Nearly identical issue to Unclaimed Server?
