have an issue where I get an error trying to play 3rd season of a TV show on a downstairs firestick or on my android phone. so far it seems isolated to this 1 season
yet I can play it in a web browser or an identical firestick model upstairs. the few times it happened I tested multiple times and got the same error. then if I started on the upstairs stick and resumed it downstairs it seemed to play that episode, but would have issues with the next episode or 2 episodes later.
in another instance i would get the error, but later in the day the file would play. it’s hard to draw a correlation to why it’s happening. I think it’s something to do with this specific season and how the file is encoded, but then why would I have no issues upstairs but issues downstairs?
I checked the basics permissions etc all good. also if it was a permissions issue it wouldn’t’ work on any player.
pulled logs from my android and got this fairly generic error:

Caused by: android.media.MediaCodec$CodecException: Error 0xe
a couple of things have changed in the last few weeks
- updated plex to newest version was at least a yr back
- replaced older fire stick with HD firesticks (same model on both TVs)
I cleared the codec folder and restarted services and tested still get the error on my phone.
set an plexignore to exclude the folder. emptied trash and then removed the ignore and rescanned to pull it back in. it then played at least 1 episode before giving the error again.
if it didn’t work everywhere that’s one thing, but it working in some places and not other makes it harder to pinpoint the cause.
hoping for suggestions on how to narrow down issue or getting some more detail from a log that says your issue is xyz. just not sure where to look for it.
