Error on Fresh Install - unable to open DB - PLZ HELP!

Edit: This is my first ever post on the plex forums. If I am posting in the wrong area or there is a better topic to post under please reply back and let me know! Thank you.

Started using plex over the pandemic and it is truly amazing. It even indexes all my “private” videos lol…

Recently updated plex, after a restart I kept getting plex database corrupt errors. I followed all the tutorials for the sql repair. Nothing worked…I will recount my next steps as best as I can recall.

I KNOW I AM AN IDIOT BY NOT RESTORING AN OLD DATABASE. Kind of found that option out after I did the following.

After DB repair didn’t work I figured “Fk it, ill just uninstall and have it reindex my library from scratch” … so I uninstalled Plex. Reinstalled it and now I get the error
"Plex Media Server was unable to open its media databse"
Uninstalled, reinstalled multiple times, same error

At the time I was also messing around with my MB and sw overclocking. Wasn’t impressed.

Today I thought. “I know windows system restore, ill recover it to 2 weeks ago when it was running smoothly”

After rebooting plex was back installed on my computer. I thought sweet everything should be fixed now. still getting the error
“Plex Media Server was unable to open its media database”

I checked %LOCALAPPDATA%\ Plex Media Server the db is now 0kb

Then I searched the HD for recoverable deleted files. Nothing in *.db was a plex db…

After this system restore I tried to uninstall and reinstall an old build from Feb 2020.
Install went smooth, same “unable to open media database”

Then I figured there must be some registry keys lingering where it doesn’t give plex a fresh install. Deleted all traces of plex from the registry. Restarted. Fresh install. Once again
"Plex Media Server was unable to open its media database"

Can anybody please help? Should I try installing Plex server to a different HD maybe?
I am running out of things to try. I can’t find any of the plex DB autobackups because i am an idiot and did the steps I just described.

Suggestion: Completely remove Plex from your system and start over from scratch.

See Uninstall Plex Media Server for details.

Basic approach:

  1. If running, shutdown Plex Media Server.
  2. Remove the old server from your account by deleting it from your list of Authorized Devices.
  3. Uninstall via Windows Control Panel. Do not use other uninstallers.
  4. Delete the Plex Data Folder.
  5. Delete the registry keys. See the support document for the specific keys.
  6. Restart your PC
  7. Download the current version of Plex Media Server.
  8. Reinstall.

Hey man, just got around to doing it today. Thank you very much. It must have been the userdata folder. Just wanted to post back and say everything is working fine again!
