I’ll repost this because my old thread was locked because of inactivy. It’s been more than 6 months and this is still not working.
Hi, i’d like to know if there is an ETA for AV1 Decode support on windows.
I know it is currently working on linux but I can’t install linux on this machine as i also use it as my PC.
I have lots and lots of movies in 4K AV1 format, and if someone needs to transcode it the server is doing the decode in software even if my iGPU fully supports AV1 decoding and encoding in hardware, and this is making the CPU go 100% just for decoding the movie. The encoding to H265 is done fully in hardware, just not the decoding.
This is a bit miserable for me because i can’t fully transition to AV1 (it will reduce my used storage by 50%) until this is implemented.
@Feanorl would you restart your PMS, wait a couple of minutes for it to finish logging the startup sequence, then demonstrate the problem for 30sec, and upload any log file changed after the restart please? Usually a zip of these is all you have to drop in your reply.

we can holler at chris_decker08 if needed after we get some info.
definitely curious about what’s the issue.
No need for all that. Av1 hw transcoding is just still not supported on windows. I asked to an ETA because I know the migration to the new ffmpeg should make it possible.
Also wondering where we stand on this. I am assuming this is my issue as I have just started moving to AV1 encodes.
“18752 - Error submitting a packet to the muxer” as well as buffering errors, when attempting transcoding.
Trying to force transcoding of the the av1 file results in the same file being direct played on the web (just doesn’t even bother starting the transcode).
AV1 direct play to iOS devices causes massive bandwidth use that ultimately crashes the plex app and pulls maybe 1 frame.
Thanks, I had issues running an AV1 file last night but think it must have been a transcode issue, had a play with it today and it seems to be resolved now.
