Every time I try to play media it stalls on the first attempt

Just wondering if there was a way around this.

If a movie or TV episode is on deck and I select it I often just get loading, after a few minutes, cancel and do again and it comes straight up.

Other times selecting the movie/tv episode just put up a spinning wheel in the middle of the black screen. Again for minutes until you cancel and start again then runs.

This occurs 90% of the time.

Could it have anything to do with HDDs spinning up on the attached DAS boxes?

If so is there anyway I can tweak Plex to actually play the video when the drive comes back up rather than to have to cancel and then try again?

I also ran into a lot of problems in the last week or so where media would play fine on every platform except the Apple TV 4, the Apple Tv appears to start the programme then jumps back to a screen with a small image of the video trying to play with a white circular arrow on it that just keeps restarting the circle.

I have played with disabling Direct Play and disabled secure connections (not too happy about that)

I assume this is a bug/issue somewhere that will get resolved soon, hopefully

Client Plex 1.3. (3220) on AppleTV 4 running iOS 10.0

Yeah same problem here. What file types are you attempting to play? (mp4 / m4v, mkv, etc). In my case, my AppleTV is unable to direct play any file that has a DTS soundtrack even if there is compatible ac3 or aac soundtrack as well. Do you notice the same behavior? I have posted about the problem multiple times in other threads, but don’t seem to get much help. Let me know what file type you are using and if you have DTS soundtracks just so I can continue to send it up the chain.

They are all M4v files, everything is converted to H264 files.

The issues occur regardless of embedded soundtrack.

i.e. The Good Life is mono and the latest films 5:1 all seem to have the problem.

Only started occurring in the last few weeks, maybe TVOS 10 related.
