I have researched this a lot. I have tried playing with all the settings, both client and server. I am at my whits end trying to get 4k to stop transcoding.
I have a Windows PMS box. i7 4770k, SSD, RAID10 etc… Server sits on a gig fiber connection. Home connection is Spectrum 100meg.
I have 2 4k Televisions. One is a TCL p605 (ROKU TV) and the other is an LG (Web OS 3.5 or 3.6). Both are wired. (TCL only does 100m).
On the TCL I have DTS etc turned off. In Plex Client I have quality set to original, I have directplay force on (tried auto).
The files are all MKV. All HEVC. Some Are AAC 2 channel, some are AC3 2 channel audio.
For the life of me I can not get them to directplay. Is my only option to use MP4?
Any hints or suggestions are really appreciated. If logs would help I am more than happy.
I had to change the settings in Server-Web-Quality. Home/internet streaming was limiting to 1080p, changed to “maximum” and all is well for most of the files (mkv and aac/ac3 audio). I can’t quite get the 60mbps files to stream smoothly but thats just a bandwidth issue.
Nothing I have tried has presented success on the LG with WebOS 3.5/3.6 but after some searching it appears to be a problem with the Plex App for that version.
My TV is on my home network (which is now up to a 100mbps down connection, it wasn’t at the time), the server resides on a business network with a 1Gbps up/down Fiber connection.
