Maybe a strange question, but is there any way I can exclude certain libraries from showing up in the server owner’s main list? Here’s my scenario:
- 1080p HQ files are in main “movies” folder.
- 720p files are in separate movies folder.
- I’m the owner - I want to only see the HQ files.
- 720p files need to be in separate folder as I only want to share low bitrate files with friends.
The problem with seeing both libraries is that as I convert files to 720p and add to the new library, those low quality files are being added to my “recently added” list so if I grab something from there then it automatically plays the bad quality version, of course. Also as I search I will see two files (one for each library) as they don’t work as “versions” in separate folders. Any “best” solutions you can come up with here?
Thanks Andy. That could work, but I’m assuming this affects everyone else’s dashboard as well, correct? I’d like for my friends to have the standard Plex features such as “recently added” and “on deck” with these lower quality libraries.
Thanks again, Trumpy, I appreciate the effort. This still doesn’t solve my problem, though. I don’t want the friends to have access to the 1080p versions due to limitations on my upstream bandwidth. So I believe I need to have them in separate libraries, thus the “versions” option not being a solution for this problem.
I ended up just spinning up a VM and setting up a second Plex server - I’m surprised there’s not another option, though. Thanks again.
Thanks, Trumpy, figured as much but I appreciate you confirming. The #1 thing I like about Plex is the pretty dashboard and UI, so I wish there was a better way to do this other than running a separate server. But hey, can’t have everything! You know what else would fix this problem are more advanced ways to specify remote stream limits per user and h265 hardware encoding on the fly if your hardware supports it
