Export / Import Plex Database and Meta

Hello, i have a plax server on a Qnap Nas. I have put a lot of efforts to collect meta data, make personal collection, personal cover, personal background and keep all this updated and orederd. Now i’m starting to think i may need a new Nas with more bays for disk but doing so i have to redo all the work i’ve done in years. :frowning:

I was wandering if there was some kind of extension or plugins that coult export all the db with metadata and filepath and than import all the db and meta wile asking where to relocate the file path.

You can think at it as the link reconnect of Adobe Indesign. When you open a project and it miss the files it ask you where the file are stored. You simply browse to the right path and all the binding are remade.

Virtaully, i’d like to import a library on my new plex installation and plex after the import should ask where are the file stored.

I don’t know if this is the right place to ask for this but i think it might be e rally usefull function.

Plex has recently updated their server on QNAP to store all the server data in an own Plex share. You should be able to move that to your new NAS (make sure Plex has the right permissions for this share) and Plex will be able to pick up from where you left it (assuming you restore the media shares/paths as well.

Edit: here’s the announcement

Very well, so i now understand the error i got…

How can i solve this?

There’s a number of posts where users solved this issue and instructions on how to investigate the root cause in the thread linked above.
Here’s 1 of those:

What if we want to export from Nvidia shield pro 2019 into a QNAP NAS? Is it possible?

cross platform could be a bit trickier.
you could try to following the key tasks of the related support article…

  • disable automatic emptying of trash on your Shield server
  • create a new Plex Media Server on that QNAP
  • stop both servers
  • access the server data folder on your Shield and migrate the data to the QNAP’s PlexData share

This might require tinkering with the files as essential paths / references inside the PlexData share might no longer be working (aside of having to fix the references to your library media)
