This is really just an operational need that I’m running into.
Every few years I tend to get a new computer… at times, I’ve used my previous mac as the plex media server… other times, I’ve just attached a big HDD or (now) SSD as the drive for my Plex content and run it from the newer mac. But anytime I change out the mac (due to device failure or my own migration to new hardware… or even if there’s just a need to erase & re-install), I end up having to make sure to backup & restore the ~/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server folder and put it back on the new computer. Sometimes “restore from time machine backup” isn’t the best option for setting up that new computer, so if I want all my playlists & custom metatagging to move with me to the newly-installed Plex system, I have to maintain a backup of that ~10GB folder (unless there’s a smaller bundle of files that represent the playlists / meta-tags for my music)
Anyway, it’d just be nice to have an ‘export playlist’ option from each playlist — even if it just dumped out to .csv or JSON data… that way, you could quickly & easily backup your playlists that you worked so hard to curate.
Maybe there’s a simpler way than backing up and dumping-back-in that whole ‘~/Library/Application Support’ folder, but I haven’t found any thing obvious yet.
